How To Network Like A Pro!
A high percentage of job seekers find their jobs through networking. This happens because not all jobs get advertised.
Networking is a great way to get informed of such opportunities and we wrote this article to help you get the best out of your networking efforts.
PROFESSIONAL NETWORKING TIPS
1 - HELP OTHERS
Networking is about helping people. As you expect others to help you, you are expected to help others too.
People will help your job search if you`ve helped them in the past.
2 - LINKED IN - A MUST HAVE
A Linked In account is a must have. If you don`t have an account, you should create one now. It helps you connect with job recruitment consultants and allows you to see the adverts they post. It also helps you connect with industry leaders and brand.
3 - FACEBOOK - FAMILY TOOL, NOT JOBSEARCH
Many employers/recruitment consultants will use their Facebook for a personal goal: to connect with their family and friends. Looking for them on Facebook and messaging them may be unsuitable and may result in you killing your chances in getting the job. You are also likely to get blocked.
4 - BE POLITE
Keeping a polite attitude towards others will increase other people's impression of you. Always try to be polite and friendly. Remember you must also help when possible.
5 - RESEARCH BEFORE CONNECTING
Researching about an individual before connecting with him will allow you to have knowledge of topics you can use to engage.
6 - ADD FRIENDS AND FAMILY
Adding your family members and friends to your network increases the chances you`ll see a job fair they are attending or a post about a job they have liked/endorsed.
7 - KEEP IN TOUCH
Keeping in touch with your connections is vital. Make sure you endorse and like achievements of your network to help them remind of your support. This is likely to be rewarded when they hear of jobs you may be interested in.
